DEVELOPMENT UPDATE:
Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ

Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ Update

Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ anticipated opening in the first quarter of 2022 and now has an official opening date in March. The hotel and its restaurant, Seventh State, will be open to the public, including the rooftop bar, Hip Flask. The M Club, located on the first floor, will be open to Marriott Bonvoy Elite members who are guests at the hotel.

Marriott International Headquarters Update

The interior buildout remains on track for a phased associate move-in this summer.

To address community concerns about bright lighting emanating from the headquarters building, the development team activated the lighting control system so lights are turned off when not in use at night. Crews are working in the building each day and will make sure the lights are turned off or dimmed at night. As buildout continues, crews may be working until about 9 p.m.

When Marriott associates are moved in, non-emergency lighting will be programmed and occupancy driven. Lights will automatically shut down in all unoccupied spaces. As soon as the last person leaves a space, there will be a delay period of 10-15 minutes before the lights shut off completely or dim down to the levels required by safety code. Most interior lighting will be off in the evenings.

Other Updates

Lane restriping along Woodmont Avenue is nearly complete, reflecting reallocated space in alignment with MCDOT’s plan. Outstanding elements, such as the bike lane markings are pending warmer weather necessary for the paint application.

Updated signage regarding parking along Woodmont will be posted by the county.

The plaza is still under construction; upon completion, community members will have access to the public plaza. It will feature a signature tree located at the east end of the plaza adjacent to the headquarters building. The tree is a Valley Forge American elm, a type of tree that was originally cultivated in Maryland.

The streetscape improvements along Wisconsin Avenue are now complete.
