Development Update: October 5, 2021

Marriott International Headquarters & Marriott Hotel
Construction of the base building and all infrastructure of the new Marriott International Headquarters is nearing substantial completion. In September, the office building’s final tranche was delivered by Hensel Phelps, the general contractor responsible for the building’s core and shell, to rand* construction corporation, the general contractor responsible for the interior fit-out. Meanwhile, the interior of the hotel building is quickly advancing and is on track for its anticipated opening in early 2022.
Last month, the hoist was removed from the office building’s southeast corner, and work is underway to complete the exterior façade, which is expected to be finished this week. Once the façade is completed, the remaining signage will be installed, and work on the plaza below will continue, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Work on the sidewalks around the perimeter of the development site also continues in various stages of installation, and all walkway coverings have now been removed. A new crosswalk over Woodmont Avenue to Garage 11 is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year. Until then, pedestrians and vehicular commuters are advised to proceed with caution and follow all directional signage around the development site. The development team continues to ensure sufficient access is maintained for adjacent businesses and residences throughout construction.
Please note that a temporary noise waiver remains in effect to mill and pave the southbound lanes of Wisconsin Avenue between Cheltenham Drive and Commerce Lane. This work is scheduled to begin soon between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The Maryland State Highway Administration requires this work to be performed during nighttime hours because of multiple lane closures, which is intended to help minimize disruptions to local business operations while enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing traffic congestion.
