Development Update: June 3, 2021

June 3rd, 2021

Marriott International Headquarters & Marriott Hotel

Throughout this spring, the development site of the new Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott hotel in downtown Bethesda, MD, has seen substantial progress.

The exterior façade is nearly complete. Along the top of both buildings, the green roof landscaping is now complete and already thriving. At the base of the entire site, work is underway on the surrounding hardscape, including curb cuts and a considerably wider sidewalk than before.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the plaza between the office and hotel buildings. The plaza, which integrates a sophisticated stormwater management system includes a lush, green thoroughfare for public access.

The office building is being handed off in five tranches from Hensel Phelps, the general contractor responsible for the building’s core and shell, to rand* construction corporation, the general contractor responsible for the interior fit-out. The first of five tranches were delivered in April, with the second tranche expected the first week in June.

Throughout construction, pedestrians and vehicular commuters are advised to proceed with caution and follow all directional signage until work is completed. The development team is working closely with adjacent businesses and residences to ensure access will be maintained through project completion.
