The Latest Construction Update
Week of November 2, 2020
This week, a major milestone takes place on the construction site as the office building, which will become the new Marriott International Headquarters, is scheduled to finally top-out.
Elsewhere on the construction site, major concrete pouring operations have concluded. Deliveries and installation of curtain wall and glass continue, which rises along the exterior façade of both buildings, and now reaches the 14th floor of the office building. Later this month, roofing and miscellaneous steelwork is scheduled to begin and is anticipated to continue through January 2021.
Inside, buildout continues as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing lines continue up the building and now reach the 16th floor. Major elevator work has started as well, with work underway on 8 out of 17 elevators throughout the property. Below-grade, striping in the garage is scheduled to begin next week.
Meanwhile, along Woodmont Avenue, excavation to facilitate the installation of telecommunications duct banks is anticipated to be completed this week. This work is expected to take place only during daytime hours. Following this work, excavation will continue with a smaller trench to facilitate pedestrian signaling near Garage 11. This work will be scheduled to ensure full access to the garage is maintained.

Your Safety Around the Construction Site
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. Along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues, walkways with overhead protection now allow for uninterrupted pedestrian access throughout the project. Pedestrian access is now aided by wayfinding signage at the entrances of these covered walkways. Along Wisconsin Avenue, pedestrians are redirected to use the east sidewalk for their safety. Access along the west side has been closed following State Highway approvals. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk, and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
