The Latest Construction Update
Week of August 31, 2020
Following the announcement that the hotel building topped-out, the construction of the new Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott Hotel is fast approaching its next major milestone. Construction of the office building continues next door and is expected to top-out in early November 2020.
Work continues around the base of the construction site with the noisiest activities, such as saw-cutting, taking place only during the day. Next week, on Tuesday, September 8, nighttime work is expected to resume along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues, as heavy excavation equipment will facilitate the installation of future telecommunications and signaling duct banks this fall. This work is expected to last no later than the end of October. No lane closures are expected as part of this work.
Meanwhile, concrete pouring operations continue and are expected to be completed this fall, as the installation of curtain wall and glass continue to rise up along the exterior façade of both buildings. Inside, every trade contractor, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, masonry and others, are hard at work inside both the office and hotel buildings.

Your Safety Around the Construction Site
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. Along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues, walkways with overhead protection now allow for uninterrupted pedestrian access throughout the project. Pedestrian access is now aided by wayfinding signage at the entrances of these covered walkways. Along Wisconsin Avenue, pedestrians are redirected to use the east sidewalk for their safety. Access along the west side has been closed following State Highway approvals. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
