Development Update: Week of June 1, 2020
May 29th, 2020
NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters
Week of June 1, 2020
The office building structure is now reaching the eleventh floor, just as the hotel structure is framing the ninth. Adjacent to Wisconsin Avenue and Woodmont Avenue, the installation of hoists to facilitate the delivery of materials for the office and hotel structures respectively continues and, both are anticipated to be fully operational in early June.
As the buildings reach higher, the cranes will be rising as well, supported by on-site crews most days this week. No additional street closures or noise is expected as most of the site utility work being performed during nighttime hours and weekends has been completed. However, early morning deliveries and placement of concrete continue most days beginning a 5:30 a.m. and will continue into the fall. Meanwhile, deliveries of the exterior window system have begun and installation will begin in early June.
Please note that construction activities at the Marriott site will not conflict in any way with the plans underway for the Montgomery County “Shared Streets” initiative being coordinated by MCDOT and Bethesda Urban Partnership along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues downtown Bethesda.
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. Along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues, walkways with overhead protection now allow for uninterrupted pedestrian access throughout the project. Pedestrian access is now aided by wayfinding signage at the entrances of these covered walkways. Along Wisconsin Avenue, pedestrians are redirected to use the east sidewalk for their safety. Access along the west side has been closed following State Highway approvals. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk, and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
