Development Update: Week of May 4, 2020
May 1st, 2020
NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters
Week of May 4, 2020
As structural work on the eighth floor is completed today, an overhead protection plan has been fully implemented. This includes cantilevered nets above the site and floor-to-floor netting overhead pedestrian areas. Along Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues, new walkways allow for uninterrupted pedestrian access with overhead protection throughout the duration of the project.
Repairs are ongoing to Pepco conduits between underground vaults under the center lane of Wisconsin Avenue and the new Marriott Hotel. This work was delayed due to rain but is expected to continue through this week as weather permits. Pepco will continue performing utility work during nighttime hours. This also includes repairs to the Wisconsin Avenue median curb, which are being coordinated with SHA.
The curb lane and sidewalk of southbound Wisconsin Avenue remain closed, but additional lane closures are anticipated soon as an external hoist and dock are installed in preparation for the installation of the curtain wall. This is anticipated to be completed in late May.
Meanwhile, early morning work on weekdays continues as delivery and placement of concrete and rebar begin at 5:30 a.m. We anticipate this work to continue most weekdays through the fall of 2020.
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk, and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
Bi-monthly construction updates
The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
However, due to health concerns related to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be holding the regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings until further notice. Until then we encourage you to submit any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
