Week of April 20, 2020
Following a brief suspension of work, this week’s construction activities continue at near-full capacity at the Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott Hotel construction site.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the development team’s highest priority is the health and safety of all those working on this project. In addition to following rigorous guidelines set by the CDC, they have also proactively published safety guidance throughout the site, added plumbed handwashing and sanitizing stations, adapted social distancing guidelines to construction work, increased frequency of cleaning, and engaged a healthcare team to monitor the wellness of the project’s workers. The team has assured us they will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and local and state governments, and will continually adapt these safety measures throughout the ongoing pandemic.
Early morning work continues with delivery and placement of concrete beginning at 5:30 a.m. We anticipate this work to continue most weekdays through the fall of 2020. Underground utility work will be limited to completing some connections for the Marriott Hotel along the western and southeastern sides of the site. Meanwhile, Pepco continues performing utility work during nighttime hours.
Along the southern side of Norfolk Avenue, the sidewalk remains closed during daytime hours. However, construction on a covered pedestrian walkway is nearly finished. The walkway will maintain uninterrupted pedestrian access and provide protection from overhead work throughout the duration of the project.
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
Bi-monthly construction updates
The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
However, due to health concerns related to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be holding the regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings until further notice. Until then we encourage you to submit any questions or comments to email@example.com.
