Development Update: Week of January 27, 2020

January 27th, 2020

Marriott International Headquarters

Week of January 27, 2020

Construction has been completed on a new, covered pedestrian walkway along the Woodmont Avenue side of the construction site, which now allows an unobstructed pathway for pedestrians along the eastern side of the street.

Daytime utility work and concrete pouring operations continue at the Marriott International construction site. This week an increase in nosier activities is expected, but these will take place only during daytime hours.

This week along Wisconsin Avenue, large-scale concrete placements will begin at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Nearby on Wisconsin and Norfolk avenues, work continues on underground vaults in coordination with Pepco. This work is expected to take place only during nighttime hours and will require additional street-level lighting, but every effort will be made to contain these lights to the construction site. This work is anticipated to extend through late spring 2020.

Meanwhile, the development team has learned that additional work will be taking place this week on traffic signals at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue at Norfolk Avenue, though this work is related to State Highway Administration projects and not directly related to the Marriott International construction site.

Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here.

Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site. During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they direct traffic to minimize disruptions. Failure to follow these directions may risk your safety or even result in a citation from local law enforcement.

Bimonthly construction updates

The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. The next construction update will be announced in early 2020.

You are invited to attend the next update on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m.
