Development Update: Week of December 16, 2019

December 13th, 2019

Marriott International Headquarters

Week of December 16, 2019

Along Wisconsin Avenue, the installation of underground utility vaults is being completed this weekend, weather permitting, which is anticipated to take place within a 12-hour window from Saturday at 9 p.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m. During this procedure, one lane of southbound Wisconsin Avenue will be temporarily closed. Meanwhile, large-scale concrete pouring operations continue. Concrete placements are scheduled this week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning at 5:30 a.m.

Along Woodmont Avenue, jersey barriers have been installed along the northbound lane to provide pedestrian access with separation from vehicular traffic. Within the next week, a handicap curb will be installed near the entrance to Woomont Grill. Nearby on Woodmont Avenue, stormwater and sanitary lines are being installed into the building, though all work is anticipated to be contained within the site for the remaining duration of construction. Each phase of the underground utility work is estimated in this site plan. Woodmont Avenue adjacent to the construction site has been recently restriped. Updated signage is also expected to be installed soon.

Along Norfolk Avenue, a manhole connection adjacent to the construction site is being connected and backfilled. Nearby on Norfolk Avenue, Pepco will be performing a necessary electrical tie-in to an overhead power line.

Throughout this project, the approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. Meanwhile, sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of closures here).

Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site. During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they direct traffic to minimize disruptions. Failure to follow these directions may risk your safety or even result in a citation from local law enforcement.

Bimonthly construction updates

The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. The next construction update will be announced in early 2020.
