Development Update: Week of June 10, 2019

June 7th, 2019

Marriott International Headquarters

Week of June 10, 2019:

The underground utility improvements and restoration work continue along Woodmont Avenue near the Norfolk Avenue intersection. Soon the work will progress east along Norfolk Avenue toward Wisconsin Avenue. It is anticipated that the majority of the work along Woodmont Avenue will be completed in July. All utility work is currently being completed during nighttime hours to minimize impact to the neighboring businesses, traffic patterns, and pedestrian access.

Meanwhile, mass excavation and hauling operations continue along Wisconsin Avenue. Concrete operations have begun within the northwest corner of the site. It is anticipated that these concrete operations will require limited detours of pedestrian access along Woodmont Avenue over the next couple of weeks while two (2) tower cranes are installed. At this time, installation of the tower cranes is scheduled for the weekend of June 21. Southbound vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns on Wisconsin Avenue will be affected, however, they will be closely monitored and carefully controlled by the general contractor in accordance with the approved traffic control plans.

Throughout this project, the approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. At all times, two-way traffic will be maintained as reasonably as possible. The timeline for all upcoming phases of the utility work is estimated in this site plan. Please note, this plan does not include anticipated work performed by Pepco.

Sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of closures here). As additional temporary closures may be necessary, pedestrians will be detoured to the east sidewalk of Wisconsin Avenue using nearby crosswalks as needed for their safety. Please be vigilant and pay close attention to signage for any detours that may be necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and security of pedestrians and commuters around the construction site.

Monthly construction updates

The developers and general contractor are committed to an open dialog with the community and they hold bimonthly construction updates for the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. The next update will take place Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
