Development Update: Week of Jan. 7, 2019

January 4th, 2019

Marriott International Headquarters

Week of January 7, 2019:

With all piles now installed, excavation is underway and will continue for several months. Blasting of the bedrock will commence in the near future and will only be performed during daytime hours. A phasing plan has been developed to ensure the increase of hauling operations has minimal impact on traffic flow through the areaas trucks continue entering and exiting the construction site along Woodmont Avenue.

Starting January 1, 2019, General Contractor Hensel Phelps closed the sidewalk and curb lane along Wisconsin Avenue to facilitate the excavation activities. Pedestrians are being directed to the east sidewalk along Wisconsin Avenue during work hours. Pedestrian access will be maintained during all non-work hours and weekends. Please take advantage of nearby crosswalks as needed, and pay special attention to signage as conditions may change from time to time.

We anticipate these closures to remain for an extended period of time through project completion. Additional lane and sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of all closures here). During this time, we ask for your patience and thank you for your understanding throughout this process. Asour number one priority is pedestrian safety in and around the construction site, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Ongoing nighttime construction activities are scheduled from February 1, 2019 to August 1, 2019, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This work will include upgrading the stormwater, sanitary, and water lines on Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues surrounding the site.

While there will be some noise produced while performing this work, any work that requires more significant noise will be done exclusively during the daytime to avoid disruptions at night. The noises you can expect to hear will be from trucking to and from the site, excavation equipment, cutting and removal of existing piping, as well as new asphalt being placed. General Contractor Hensel Phelps has applied for a temporary noise waiver. You may learn more about the noise waiver application from the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. You may also submit your comments to by January 13, 2019.

Performing this work will also require different lane closures throughout this time, however all work is being performed throughout the night in order to minimize the impact we have on traffic during normal business hours. Any lanes closed at night will be reopened during the day.
