NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters

Week of April 13, 2020

Following the discovery that some workers at the Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott Hotel construction site tested positive for COVID-19, work has remained suspended to allow a third-party company specializing in biohazard cleanup to perform a deep cleaning per CDC guidelines. Bethesda Magazine has ongoing coverage of the temporary suspension of work.

However, while major construction activities remain temporarily suspended, a limited crew of workers will continue working on the site beginning this weekend as they complete work on concrete columns. Next week along Wisconsin Avenue, Pepco will be performing utility work toward the north end of the site during nighttime hours.

Meanwhile along Wisconsin and Woodmont avenues, ongoing utility work will transition to daytime hours. Two-way vehicular traffic is expected to remain unaffected as this work is anticipated to occur within the curb lane, though the general contractor has approval by the State Highway Administration to reduce southbound traffic to one lane along Wisconsin Avenue if necessary.

Along the southern side of Norfolk Avenue, a covered pedestrian walkway has been constructed to maintain pedestrian access and provide protection from overhead work.

All major operations are expected to resume later next week.

Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here. The safety of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site is vitally important, so we ask that you please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.


 

Bi-monthly construction updates

The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.

However, due to health concerns related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we will not be holding the regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings until further notice. Until then we encourage you to submit any questions or comments to development@mhqbethesda.com.
