Development Update: Week of March 23, 2020
NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters
Week of March 9, 2020
Concrete placement operations continue at the Marriott International Headquarters construction site. This week, large-scale concrete placements are anticipated to occur Monday and Wednesday beginning at 5:30 a.m. As the project advances, we anticipate early morning placements to continue most weekdays through the fall of 2020. Meanwhile, work will begin early each morning as deliveries of rebar, plumbing materials, and other construction supplies make their way onto the construction site.
Along Wisconsin Avenue, nighttime work will begin this Sunday on underground utility and stormwater vaults for the future hotel building. Closures of the curb lane and sidewalk along Southbound Wisconsin Avenue are anticipated to only take place intermittently to accommodate this work, however every effort will be made to keep the curb lane and sidewalk open as often as possible.
Along the southern side of Norfolk Avenue, the sidewalk remains closed during daytime hours. However in the coming weeks, another covered pedestrian walkway, similar to the walkway installed along Woodmont Avenue, will be constructed along Norfolk Avenue in order to maintain pedestrian access and provide protection from overhead work. Two-way vehicular traffic along Norfolk Avenue remains unaffected.
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here. Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site. During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
Bimonthly construction updates
The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
Due to health concerns caused by the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, we will not be holding the regularly scheduled bimonthly meetings until further notice. For now, we invite you to submit any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
