Development Update: Week of February 10, 2020
NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters
Week of February 10, 2020
The future Marriott International Headquarters and Marriott Hotel buildings are now prominently rising upward above the construction site.
Concrete pouring operations continue at the Marriott International construction site. Due to several days of inclement weather, concrete pouring operations will continue on Saturday of this week. Beginning next week, large-scale concrete placements will begin at 5:30 a.m. and are anticipated to take place every weekday thereafter, breaking on the weekends, and continuing through 2020. This work introduces an increase in noisier activities but will take place only during daytime hours.
Nearby on Wisconsin and Norfolk avenues, work is nearly complete on underground utility vaults for the future headquarters building. We anticipate PEPCO to mobilize to the site in the coming weeks to install underground electrical lines in the installed duct banks and vaults. Beginning this week, slightly further south along Wisconsin Avenue, work will begin on underground utility duct banks and vaults for the future hotel building, which will include additional excavation and hauling.
The development team is coordinating with the property management of each neighboring building to ensure every effort is made to minimize disturbances caused by day and night utility work. Work on underground utility vaults is anticipated to extend through late spring 2020.
Throughout this project, approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. For available walkways around the construction site along Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues, view the pedestrian site logistics plan here.
Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site. During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they help to ensure your safety, direct traffic, and minimize disruptions.
Bimonthly construction updates
The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
You are invited to attend the next update on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m.
