Deborah Marriott Harrison receives Emeritus Business Leader Award from Montgomery County Chamber

On Thursday, November 21, 2019, at its annual Business Awards Dinner, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) recognized Deborah Marriott Harrison, Marriott International’s Global Cultural Ambassador Emeritus, with the Emeritus Business Leader of the Year award. This award is presented each year to an individual approaching or newly retired and has had a substantial impact on the way business is conducted in Metro Maryland and who has shown, through many years of active and continuing service, a true commitment to the community.

The annual Business Awards Dinner celebrates the best of Montgomery County’s business community, with more than 800 guests regularly attending. This year the Business Awards Dinner took place at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, MD.

Harrison currently serves as the Global Cultural Ambassador Emeritus. She has been a director of Marriott International since 2014, and she has held several positions within the Company since 1975. Harrison has been actively involved in serving the community through participation on various committees and boards including the Mayo Clinic Leadership Council for the District of Columbia and the boards of the Bullis School, the D.C. College Access Program, and the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation. She has also served on the boards of several mental health organizations, including The National Institute of Mental Health Advisory Board, Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association, and the Center for the Advancement of Children’s Mental Health in association with Columbia University.

As the daughter of the Executive Chairman and the granddaughter of Marriott International’s founders, Harrison brings to our Board and our Committee for Excellence an extensive knowledge of the company, its history, its culture, and its mission. Her enthusiasm, judgment and deep experience with Marriott and its company culture provides the Board with valuable insight and strategic focus.
