Week of October 28, 2019
On Monday, October 28, beginning at 8:00 p.m., road repairs will begin to the southbound lane of Wisconsin Avenue. These critical repairs are due to a sinking trench in the roadway, but are entirely unrelated to the Marriott development site. Please be advised there may be some noise during this time. For any questions or comments, please contact the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.
Meanwhile, concrete pouring operations at the development site continue along Wisconsin Avenue. This week, concrete placements are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings beginning at 5:00 a.m.
On Saturday, November 5, beginning at 9:00 p.m., WSSC will temporarily shut off water service near the development site to accommodate the installation of water, sanitary, and stormwater lines. The outage is expected to last only a few hours and service will be restored as soon as possible.
In response to recent community feedback regarding noise along Wisconsin Avenue, caused by vehicular traffic driving over temporary steel road plates, the development team has worked with its contractors to implement solutions to prevent this noise from continuing. We hope these measures are satisfactory, but we encourage the community to voice their feedback if the noise persists. These road plates are only temporary and will be removed following necessary underground utility work. This work will continue during nighttime hours and is anticipated to be completed in November.
Underground utility work along Woodmont Avenue, which began in March of this year, is expected to be finished in early November following WSSC’s temporary shut off of water service. Most of this work is currently being performed during daytime hours. Following the completion of this work, the section of Woodmont Avenue adjacent to the construction site will be patched and restriped. Related road restoration work is being performed during daytime hours. Each phase of the underground utility work is estimated in this site plan.
Along Norfolk Avenue, just west of Wisconsin Avenue, Pepco is anticipated to perform necessary infrastructural upgrades in the coming weeks. This work will be coordinated with the traffic control plan, so we encourage commuters and pedestrians alike to stay tuned for more information.
Throughout this project, the approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic and pedestrian control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. Meanwhile, sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of closures here). Based on recent community feedback, new and enhanced traffic and pedestrian control plans have been submitted for review. We anticipate these new plans will be approved and implemented in October.
Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site. During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they direct traffic to minimize disruptions. Failure to follow these directions may risk your safety or even result in a citation from local law enforcement.
Monthly construction updates
The development team is committed to an open dialog with the community and holds bi-monthly construction updates open to the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
