Development Update: Week of July 8, 2019

Week of July 8, 2019:

Concrete operations and other activities have substantially increased and will continue for the foreseeable future. Occasional detours of pedestrian access along Woodmont Avenue may be required and will be closely monitored by the general contractor. The final push for mass excavation and hauling operations along Wisconsin Avenue continues and is anticipated to be completed by the end of July.

A noise waiver has been issued by Montgomery County that allows for large concrete pours to take place outside of the normal work hours, however, the general contractor will endeavor to mitigate noise pollution during these hours. They will provide advance notice of when these operations are scheduled, with the next concrete operation currently scheduled for the week of July 8 beginning at 5:00 a.m.

Underground utility improvements and restoration work also continue along Woodmont Avenue. The majority of this work will be completed in July, followed by the next phase of work along Norfolk Avenue heading east toward Wisconsin Avenue. This work will be performed primarily during nighttime hours to minimize impact to the neighboring businesses, traffic patterns, and pedestrian access, with occasional daytime work as necessary.

Throughout this project, the approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. At all times, two-way traffic will be maintained as reasonably as possible. The timeline for all upcoming phases of the utility work is estimated in this site plan. Please note, this plan does not include anticipated work performed by Pepco.

Meanwhile, sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of closures here). During this time, please be vigilant and pay close attention to detour signs and flagging operators as they direct traffic to minimize disruptions. Our number one priority is the safety and security of commuters and pedestrians around the construction site.

Monthly construction updates

The developers and general contractor are committed to an open dialog with the community and they hold bimonthly construction updates for the general public. These updates are generally scheduled for the first Tuesday of every other month and take place in downtown Bethesda at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center located at 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. The next update will take place Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
