Development Update: Week of May 13, 2019

NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY
Marriott International Headquarters

Week of May 13, 2019:

Underground utility improvements and restoration work continues along Woodmont Avenue and are anticipated to continue through July. Work at the intersection of Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues is currently being completed during nighttime hours to minimize potential impact on neighboring businesses, traffic and pedestrians. Meanwhile, concrete operations are expected to begin in the next couple of weeks, while mass excavation and hauling operations continue along Wisconsin Avenue and are anticipated to continue through July.

The installation for the first of two tower cranes is targeted for early June. Installation will take place on a weekend with traffic being detoured around the construction site along Wisconsin Avenue.

As part of Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17, temporary bike lanes will pass through downtown Bethesda and alongside the Marriott International Headquarters development site on Norfolk Avenue. No concurrent construction activities are expected, but cyclists should exercise caution as they pass through the area as temporary steel road plates will be in use along the route.

Throughout this project, the approved Montgomery County and State Highway traffic control plans will ensure minimal impact to traffic flow around the construction site. At all times, two-way traffic will be maintained as reasonably as possible. The timeline for all upcoming phases of the utility work is estimated in this site plan. Please note, this plan does not include anticipated work performed by Pepco.

Sidewalk closures remain in place along sections of Woodmont, Norfolk and Wisconsin Avenues (view map of closures here). As additional temporary closures may be necessary, pedestrians will be detoured to the east sidewalk of Wisconsin Avenue using nearby crosswalks as needed for their safety. Please be vigilant and pay close attention to signage for any detours that may be necessary. Our number one priority is the safety and security of pedestrians and commuters around the construction site.
