Marriott International welcomes local students inside to explore career fields with the company

On December 6, 2018, Marriott International participated in Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School’s Career Partnership Day. Now celebrating its 25-year anniversary, the event is produced in partnership with Junior Achievement and the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.

This year, more than 35 organizations opened their doors to host students of the program. The one-day event, open to high school juniors and seniors, allows students to shadow professionals in a role that aligns with their particular career interest. The program engages the local business community to provide students with experiences to explore different career paths, or even provide a glimpse into their future career.

“Providing students with the opportunity to experience workplace environments and interact with the larger business community is an integral component of the education students receive here,” said Roberta Ricci, Career Partnership Day Adviser at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. “We believe this is the best way to help students discover what they want to be when they grow up.”

“We were honored to bring these forward-looking students into Marriott International to explore the many career fields available at our company,” said M. Andy Chaves, who leads Marriott International’s Youth Strategies, Partnerships and Workforce programs. “The chance to share a memorable experience and make an impression that informs their career decisions is a great responsibility that we are proud to share.

Students participate so they can explore different professions, better understand the relevance between academics and career opportunities, identify the organizations that offer opportunities in their community and validate necessary skills needed to be professionally successful. The students receive a first-hand account of different jobs, meet a variety of professionals across many disciplines, receive valuable career advice, and make meaningful connections that could lead to future work study opportunities.
